[Newbie]can Gnome but not KDE!

Hi all,   Its me again with further developments with my X problems. I am running RH 7.2 with 2.4.18.   I was just wondering if you have any clues about what went wrong with my XF86.   I can boot into X on the Gnome desktop but not KDE. The laptop screen will go blank in KDE.   The KDE will start its usual init routines (I can see the startup screen and all) and the moment it says “initializing peripherals”, the screen goes totally blank! However, a monitor connected externally remains on and can function in KDE, just the notebook’s own screen is blanked out. Any attempts to switch modes btn the external monitor and the laptop display will cause me to lose both display, with the external monitor saying “out of range”.   It will be great if you can spare the time to read this mail.   Looking forward to your reply and thanx.   Darren
