Hi Robyn,

You know more about Linux than the Mandrake expert <G> As I said in my
follow-up message, the "expert" said there was no way to stop X. Just to
change the boot options so X would not start.

Now I am back to my old problem. When I run drakconf I get two messages
"configuring Xserver" and "Installing Packages" with no option for me to
change anything. When my new video card arrives, I may have to do a complete
reinstall in order to get the card configured. I have done this about 10
times already, so one more will not hurt.

BTW - during installation of Mandrake 8.2 there is a nice graphical screen
that comes up that allows you to change the video card, resolution, monitor,
etc and then test the settings before writing them to the xf86config file.
Can I get to that screen after I have Mandrake up an running? Is that the
screen that is supposed to show up when I run drakconf?

Hi Vic

In 'X' if you press Ctrl-Alt-F2 you will get a terminal screen you can
login as root from there run drakconf and exit out of there and restart
'X'. You may also have to restart the login screen as that's a part of
'X'. Ctrl-Alt-BS only gets you out of 'X' and back to a login screen be
that graphical or text.
