John how did you setup your video card?
Did you have the mfg specs to feed the setup.
If not you may need to do that. You may also need to
change the monitor 
type to a different refresh rate.
When you say that Gnome is too large to run do you
mean it is too large 
to load, or is the display so large that it runs off
the sereen?

I setup X using Xfree86.  I had to use the SVGA
generic for my video card becuase from what I saw
Intel 810 is not in the list.  I used the exact
specificaitons for my monitor and for some reason the
resolution does not make a difference when I change
it.  Everything is to large on the screen like after I
setup XFree86 The test screen is to large and when I
startup Gnome it is to large for the display.
