I would rather assume that the graphic card is not recognised in such case one gets sometimes a 320x240 resolution. Depending on which version of X you are using (I don't know FreeBSD well enough)you could try using SVGA (X 3.3.x) or vesa (X 4.x.x) The 810 has also given some troubles you should use google on the list to get the various solutions which were advocated...
