Dave,

when I was a newbie (and that's not too much time ago) I used to think like
that. But in OSM people have a saying: "Never tag for the renderer".

So, don't worry if it doesn't gets rendered on Mapnik. I know it doesn't
make too much sense, but OSM is about the data, not about fancy png images.
The idea is that we should map something that could be useful to someone; if
the renderers don't understand, it's a matter of improving the renderers.
