Another slightly different way in JOSM without the plugin would be to copy to your clipboard the URL for the relation (the one for the number itself, i.e. http://api.openstreetmap.org/api/0.6/relation/8864). Then inside JOSM choose File | Open Location. Paste the URL into the screen and click Download URL. Which parts did you walk? I've added bits to this particular route myself in the past.
