I agree, but... The convention adopted here (and in Japan and other countries) is to have the name=* tag in the native language followed by English in parentheses: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Ko:Map_Features#.ED.91.9C.EA.B8.B0.EB.B2.95 As you can see, we also include name:en and name:ko. Personally I find it very useful, as Mapnik renders only the name=* tag, so I see English in parentheses. Later, when the renderers are fully internationalised it won't matter. With my (English) browser I will see the name:en tag (if present) and the name=* tag if not (and actually, that's what JOSM does right now). At that time we can programmatically delete the name=* tag and replace it with the contents of name:<local_lang> tag throughout the OSM database. But, for now, about my weirs...
