Yeah, there are some (well, lots of) people who love to write red text. If
everybody restricted themselves to use only bold, italic and underlined I
would be fine with formatting, though. But, also, there are some people who
like to read things in a terminal, with monospaced fonts (and these same
people commonly have 3D cards and 22" LCDs to play games... I just can't
understand!). And finally there are some email clients which like to mess
with people lives when they see some formatting. So I guess this is not
negotiable.

ps.: My opinion is: decades and more decades of computer science and
engineering and we can't achieve some characters to be bold or italic
without generating conflicts. I am profoundly ashamed of my area. (same
thing for people not using Unicode in personal, powerful computers)
