   The preferred tag is now website=, according to the Wiki.   I agree with 
this concept where possible for the same reason.   Opening hours can change 
with the seasons and often it is not feasible to sync with the map.

   An argument for entering information into OSM is where there is no web 
site for data of interest such as parking information.   And having a common 
format makes a good user experience - when selecting a POI on an offline 
SmartPhone or navigation device, opening hours could be displayed.   But of 
course, this is useless if the information is old and wrong.
