I'm currently running RH8 and I can't get the sound
to work. I've tried checking the internet for stuff and I've been able to figure
out that RH incorrectly detects the sound card (it tries to use the i810_audio
module but the specs on my motherboard indicate that it uses the AD1981A codec
for sound (as part of 'the audio subsystem for AC '97 processing')). I checked
out the ALSA web site and I read somewhere that the rc7 version of the newest
download has the correct sound driver for my onboard card. Anywho, I went ahead
and downloaded the alsa thingy and I followed the install instructions as best
as I could but to no avail (I ran a couple of the scripts, did the 'make
install', and then it wanted me to make changes to the /etc/modules.conf file; I
tried a couple of things there but it didn't seem to work so I just changed it
back to how it was (sure hope I didn't queer anything up)).
I've been trying to figure this sound thing out for
quite some time and I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some
pointers.
thanks!
