i haven't seen any good tutorials, but a friend who uses linux a lot taught me that for rpms: rpm -Uvh yourfilename.rpm and for tars: tar -zxvf yourfilename.tar work nicely... that's what i've used... (if any of this is wrong, please post something... i'm not completely sure what the letters mean... if you want more info, try man tar or man rpm the man files are actually very very helpful when learning linux.. hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more... like you, i'm very very slowly learning this :) ~Erin
