So, I read this:
http://news.com.com/Drag-and-drop+flaw+mars+Microsoft's+latest+update/2100-1002_3-5318358.html?part=rss&tag=5318358&subj=news.1002.5
Though this issue is not extremely serious, it made me think of a more general problem. I started thinking to myself, this really shows the importance of having users understand how to secure their system through firewall, antivirus, and spyware software. Though in the instance in the article, I am not sure how any of these would prevent the problem, but that is not the point.
It seems that even though companies will try and try to secure the software they make, there will still be holes that someone will find. The only defense we have that superceeds the patching paradigm we have right now is to focus on securing the system.
In other words, we need to move from the patching paradigm to the "securing the system" paradigm. Not saying that we get rid of patching, because it is good, but I worry that we rely on that fixing our problems, which it does not do all the time. I don't know, just a thought, and wanted to spill it here. :)
