Stuart, I have some of a similar question.  I use fedora3 on my laptop and am I trying to change the video output to my serial port so that I can display stuff on a video projector at school.  The only thing that I have seen that might work (haven't tried it yet) is to change my bios to allow F6 to change the video output.  Any thoughts on this procedure or a better one?

p.s. I just went through my mission stuff.  I can't believe how long ago it was when we were in Americana.

The nVidia installer is a point of some controversy. As an alternative,
livna has RPMs of nvidia's driver. I've had some annoying experiences
with nvidia's installer, so livna is my preference. But like I said,
it's controversial, so I won't try to tell you one of the other is
"best".

Are you certain that savage/ix drivers are available for Linux? You
might be out of luck. These questions are usually best addressed to Dr.
Google.
