GCC < 3.x is a load of **** !
They had many many problems with c++, you need to upgrade to gcc 3.x.
Which I don't know how you're going to do since under RH7.3 is no more maintain....
I highly advise you to install apt-get for RH (http://apt.freshrpms.net/)
To actually do the upgrade:
"apt-get update"
"apt-get dist-upgrade"

If they don't provide gcc 3.x, you can force it to upgrade the whole system:
Modify "/etc/apt/sources.list" and comment all lines, add this
"rpm http://ayo.freshrpms.net redhat/9/i386 os updates freshrpms", this will allow you to do a complete upgrade to RH9, whitout having to reinstall.
You will probably want to modify "/etc/apt/apt.conf" as well, to make sure you don't have duplicate packages 'Allow-Duplicated { };'.
Then once again:
"apt-get update"
"apt-get dist-upgrade"
I highly advise you not to do it on a production machine.

Thanks for the very prompt reply! I appreciate it. I tried your
suggestion but it still chokes in Entity_PUBLICATION as show below
when using gcc 2.96-113. I can't get gcc 3.2.3 to go again:-( Some
problem with loading shared libraries during the configure script.
Had it working but seem to have forgotten how. Had renamed all the
existing gcc 2.96 rpm installation (gcc, cpp, g++ c++ to other names)
and added /usr/local/bin to my path which is where the gcc 3.2.3
gcc, etc live. How do I get it to load the libstdc++.so.5 library in
/usr/local/lib? I have tried adding this to the path but to no avail.

Do I have to use gcc > 2.96-113 eg gcc 3.2.3?

Thanks again

Paul
