BURNS: TALKS STARTS WITHIN 30 DAYS

All dailies report that the US Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Nicholas Burns on Thursday, in his visit to Kosovo said that status talks will be initiated within thirty days. He said that the US will appoint a special envoy to support the process of Kosovo status solution.

Koha Ditore underlines that Burns asked from Serbia to act fair with Kosovo , while he has also called the political elite to be united on the eve of status discussions, and not repeat the Rambouillet.

“What status will Kosovo have doesn’t depend on the US or any other state. My state does not support any special option. This should be responsibility of the people who live here, but it is also the responsibility of S-M. We hope to see the process of talks on Kosovo status starts within thirty days, and people and states starts talk on the best way to move ahead,” said burns.

Zeri underlines burns as saying, “We believe that Kosovo people have the right to know what will their future be.” Paper writes that Burns hopes that in the next two months will bring historical changes in Kosovo.

Express reports that Nicholas Burns asked Kosovo leaders to be prepared for talks by expressing his will that Kosovo team should be united.

“It is time for unity, it should be for the compromise as well,” said Burns.
In a meeting with the Team of Unity, Burns has given a clear message that they can be successful only if they have a unified position and if they move in one strategic line. On the other hand, if they are not unified as in Rambouillet, then there will be difficulties. Burns also said that the voice of Serb minority should be heard.

Paper further writes that political leaders remained satisfied by the meeting they had with the US Undersecretary Burns.  President Ibrahim Rugova called this meeting as fruitful and  said expressed his opinion that talks on Kosovo status will start soon.

PM Bajram Kosumi said that they have done the first consultation on basic principles of how the process will go and possible risks.

The PDK leaders Hashim Thaçi said that that the US will pay a its role directly in final solution of Kosovo status.

Paper reports that after the day visit to Prishtina, in evening, Burns travelled to Belgrade and had diner meeting with Serbia’s President Boris Tadic.
