Montenegro to introduce two official languages Podgorica, 08:12
Montenegro's authorities are set to introduce changes to the Constitution, including official use of both Montenegrin and Serbian languages and refraining from treating the Church in the supreme state law. The President of the Movement for Changes, Nebojsha Medojevic, said this in a programme aired by the Montenegrin State Television. "Every nation wants to name its official language after its own state, which in our case, is the Montenegrin. On the other hand, 63 percent of the population is declaring they speak Serbian, therefore, some kind of compromise has to take place. As far as we are concerned, we don't see a problem in parallel use of two official languages", Medojevic said. However, Dragan Kujovic from the Democratic Party of Socialists, voiced an opposing stance. He argued that the Montenegrin language, state and nation have been forming simultaneously, therefore it should be used as a sole official language.
