President Basescu Announced he Was Prepared to Pull
out Romanian Contingent from Iraq
Bucharest - The Romanian President Traian Basescu
announced that he was prepared to pull out the
military contingent of the country from Iraq if that
1was the wish of the greater part of the Romanian
population, ITAR-TASS announced.
At the same time Basescu failed to point out how
citizens’ wish could be understood. In an interview
for the national TV Basescu said that the problem with
the pullout of the Romanian military contingent from
Iraq has also a moral aspect.
“If the Romanian citizens could understand that the
pullout of our troops could harm the international
image of our country they wouldn’t vote in support of
a similar decision”, the Romanian president announced.
There is 900 strong Romanian contingent in Iraq at the
moment.
