Zobel: Kosovo issue wears Serbia down 2 September 2007 | 16:24 | Source: Beta
NOVI SAD -- Outgoing German Ambassador to Serbia Andreas Zobel says the Kosovo
issue is "exhausting Serbia".

“I do hope that the complex issue of Kosovo’s future status will be settled as
soon as possible in the interest of people in Serbia and Kosovo. Further delays
are of no use to anyone,” Zobel said in a farewell interview to the Novi Sad
daily Dnevnik.

Zobel, who is about to end his diplomatic mission in Belgrade, said that
further delays in the status settlement would only aggravate the situation in
Kosovo.

“The Kosovo issue, according to the Serbian media, is put above all others and
as such absorbs the energy of the authorities in Belgrade,” the German diplomat
said.

“With that in mind, there is a possibility that economic and social reforms
will suffer and stagnate, as the Serbian people could continue to lose faith in
the better future.”
