Support for Kosovo a cover for diplomatic failings?

Is it my imagination or did the United States just help set a precedence by
allowing Kosovo to declare independence from Serbia?

With what has just happened in Serbia, what would stop Texas, New Mexico,
Arizona or California from declaring their own independence? Would NATO send
in peacekeeping forces to keep the United States from retaliation?

To take this a step further, why can't individuals claim their homes and
yards as their own country? In a sense, this is just what happened in
Kosovo.

The Bush administration is trying to make up for all of the mistakes it has
made in the Middle East and is now trying to gain support by showing those
in Muslim-dominated countries that they can live in a democratic society.

The United States should worry more about its own borders than being the
police department of the world. It's a downright shame that a country as
rich as this one has so many homeless, so many uneducated people, yet spends
hundreds of billions of dollars destroying other countries' livelihoods.
