9th anniversary of airstrikes against Yugoslavia
Monday, 24 March 2008

Today marks the ninth anniversary of the launch of NATO-led air
strikes against the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Serbian media said
the air strikes lasted 11 weeks. Different sources say the bombardment left
between 1.200 and 2.500 people dead. A number of infrastructure facilities
across Serbia were destroyed.

The bombing campaign against Yugoslavia began on 24 March 1999 shortly
before 8 p.m. The then NATO Secretary General Javier Solana issued the
activation order.

Yugoslav government declared a state of war the same evening.
