A bigger lie

Monday, June 09, 2008

While Hillary Clinton's tale of dodging sniper fire in Bosnia turned out to
be untrue (Letters, May 25), of more importance and totally ignored is the
fact that our involvement in the Bosnian civil war was based on deliberate
disinformation in an attempt to support the Bosnian side of the conflict.

Bosnia is probably the first time in U.S. history that a first lady was
responsible for the bombing of a sovereign nation, in this case, Yugoslavia.
It was a decision that was to have a profound impact in the United States,
the Balkans and Europe.

Gail Sheehy's book, Hillary's Choice, reveals, "After barely speaking to
Bill Clinton for about eight months after the final Monica explosion, she
called him [Clinton] from North Africa at the height of the Kosovo
disturbances and convinced him to bomb Yugoslavia."

While Hillary Clinton routinely compared Kosovo to the Holocaust, Holocaust
survivor Elie Wiesel stated in a New York Times article in 1999 that Kosovo
was not a genocide.

Just as the former first lady's sniper story on Bosnia was a fabrication,
the bigger lie that was perpetrated against the Serbian people was the
manufactured excuses used to bomb innocent Serbians, based on alleged
Serbian atrocities.
