The A4 problem does not occur for me (all set to US). Can you open a 
terminal window, get root, enter the "locale" command and post its 
output? Can you also start "printerdrake" out of this terminal window 
and see whether the problem still persists? If you have started 
Printerdrake or the MCC from the menues, wahat are the language settings 
of your desktop environment/window manager?

Unfortunately, your printer is not better supported by free software 
than how it works now. You need to install the proprietary (but free of 
charge) driver from www.lexmark.com to get high printout quality.
