*/Notice that:/*
*#1* - the city council is electing a new chair and vice chair for the
year. this happens every year in January, even on years not after an
election.
*#2* - Three public hearings tonight -- in 2 of the public hearings, the
use of a combined total of _*over $10,530,000 in taxpayer
dollars/borrowing more money in your name will be decided on. *_
*A.* The first hearing is for about $1.9 million and I don't know much
about it -- the short description seems good to me though.
*B.* The third hearing is for about $8.7 million. I do not have the
details on it but on the little that I do I have mixed feelings.
It's good to help our local economy by bringing a local convention
center to downtown.
The bad part is and it's late but maybe not too late -- because unused
borrowed money can be returned -- looks like the city is taking or has
already taken money from the /federal economic stimulus package(American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009)/ that is putting us, our
children, our grandchildren, and our great-great grandchildren deeper
and deeper into debt. :(
When a family is in debt -- does it continue to take out loan after loan
after loan after loan after loan in order to survive!?
No, they stop borrowing, balance their budget, work very hard, and
brainstorm ways out of the mess that don't involve borrowing.
I know the wheels are already in motion and i agree that the convention
center is a really good thing, a great thing.
But should we be borrowing more money to do it?
What are some ways to do it without borrowing?
There's got to be a way or ways! :)
Click the link above for slightly more details and if you have further
questions make sure to call the council office staff @ 801-852-6120 to
get them to email you a copy of the proposed bills, etc. Or email them
at [email protected]. and then call to follow up since there's
only a few hours till the meeting.
*#3* - "Open mike"(microphone) time for you to step up to the podium and
make any comments or ask any questions of the council or the mayor!
It's better to contact them ahead of time, to try to talk with them in
person or over the phone first -- but if your schedule is such that you
can't do that or you forget to, then the open mike time is a great
opportunity for you.

P.S. We need to get more of our neighbors involved and informed about
what happens at these city council meetings. The more people that get
informed and give feedback to our local legislators, then the more our
city government improves.
