**************************************** Hollywood Utopia "I think we obviously have to invade Iraq. If we've all gotten together and decided not to hate people that want to kill us, someone should let me know and I'll go live in Alec Baldwinia." - Comedian Dennis Miller *********************************** Go Forth and e-Multiply If you know someone who might like to receive News & Views, you can sign 'em up at: http://www.chuckmuth.com. For us baby-boomers who remember shows such as "I Love Lucy," "The Honeymooners" and "Mayberry RFD," this was a nice stroll down memory lane. That is, until that Meathead from "All in the Family," Rob Reiner, joined Sally Struthers to accept an award for that classic series. He just HAD to use even this light-hearted, fun-filled venue to spew forth his anti-war rhetoric. That was it for me. Off with the TV and off to bed. Reiner isn' t a Meathead; he's a putz. **************************************** Hollywood Windbag "Don't ask Martin Sheen for his political opinions. Once he gets started, you can't shut him up. The veteran actor - who is as proud as the NBC peacock that he's been arrested 64 times for civil disobedience - has become even more of a blowhard in the four years he's been playing the liberal president Josiah Bartlet on 'The West Wing.'" - "Page Six," New York Post **************************************** Bottom Line "Hollywood celebs aren't antiwar. They just hate the president." - Columnist John Fund, OpinionJournal.com, 3/13/03 **************************************** The High Cost of Delay "The Wall Street Journal says the risks of delaying war are growing, as Saddam Hussein has more time to prepare his death traps and other evil tricks to confound Americans. An editorial in Wednesday's edition says there is definite danger in delay: For one thing, 'thugs such as North Korea's Kim Jong Il' see that they may also use the U.N. to stymie and frustrate American resolve. "According to the editorial, it is now clear that 'the U.N. inspections regime is not about containing Saddam; it is about containing America.' President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair went to the U.N. in good faith, the editorial says, to build international support. But the U.N. is proving its own irrelevance, and President Bush needs to remember his 'obligation is not to the reputation of the U.N. but to the safety of American soldiers and citizens.'" - CNSNews.com, 3/12/03 **************************************** "No Reason" to Stay in U.N. "By pushing for a war resolution vote he might lose, President Bush has issued and ultimatum not just to Saddam Hussein, but to the United Nations. . . . If the Security Council does not (insist on Iraq compliance with disarmament resolutions), then the U.N. likely will join the League of Nations in the dustbin of history. "The United Nations was created by the United States, and cannot survive without our active participation. And if the United Nations will not oppose aggression, terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, or encourage democracy and human rights, there is no reason why we should continue to participate in it." - Columnist Jack Kelly ***************************************** U.N. Morality "(T)he notion that the U.N.'s 'moral' approval was somehow necessary (to disarm Iraq) is ludicrous, particularly since U.N. morality includes turning over its human-rights committee to Libya and repeatedly branding as racist the only Middle East democracy, Israel." - Columnist John Leo ************************************ NEW! 4.75 cents-per-minute Long Distance * All state-to-state calls in the continental U.S. * Residential or commercial * 6-second billing increments * 24 hours/day * 7 days/week * No access codes * No minimums * No activation fees * Calling Card Rate is 10 cents per minute * No monthly service charge unless your bill is less than $20.00 a month (then a $1.99 service charge will apply) * No need to change your local phone company * No hassles * Easy sign-up. * And a small portion of each bill goes to help continue publishing our FREE Chuck Muth's News & Views e-newsletter. In 1993, then-President Bill Clinton abruptly ended the U.S. military's humanitarian mission in Somalia, which had been operating under U.N. command, after 18 GIs were killed by an al Qaeda-trained militia. "In Srebenica, Bosnia, two years later, U.N. peacekeepers stood by while Serb militiamen massacred Bosnian Muslim refugees who were supposed to be under U.N. protection. Serb militiamen took hapless peacekeepers hostage for use as 'human shields' at strategic sites. In Rwanda, U.N. peacekeepers stood by as 800,000 people were massacred by government forces and local militias. In Sierra Leone, peacekeepers were taken hostage by insurgent militiamen seeking to topple the government." - Washington Times editorial, 3/12/03 **************************************** Another U.N. Failure "A U.N.-led effort to reunite Cyprus collapsed yesterday, leaving its inhabitants indifferent, politicians confused and the Turkish army firmly in control of the northern part of the Mediterranean island. In the predawn hours at The Hague's Peace Palace in the Netherlands, U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan reached what he called 'the end of the road' in talks with leaders of the feuding Cypriot communities." - Washington Times, 3/12/03 **************************************** No Lawyers for Terrorists "(The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia) yesterday slammed shut the doors of every federal courthouse in America to fighters captured on Afghan battlefields and imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. . . . The ruling, which is certain to be appealed to the Supreme Court, was the first by an appeals court that directly determined whether the 600-plus al Qaeda and Taliban combatants at Guantanamo have the right to lawyers or court review of their detention." - Washington Times, 3/12/03 **************************************** Paying for the War & Rebuilding ".(I)t is right and moral to pay for Iraq's liberation with that nation's chief resource - oil. When that bill is paid, there will be plenty of oil left to rebuild the country, which again, should be done primarily with Iraq 's, not America's money." - Columnist Cal Thomas **************************************** No Confidence "Swing voters don't believe the Democrats are sufficiently competent to handle relations with Iceland - no less the rest of the planet." - - Democrat pollster Vic Fingerhut, "Lessons Learned from the Last Election," Campaigns & Elections magazine, February 2003 **************************************** Osama Mama Rep. Nancy Kaptur, Ohio Democrat, recently compared 9/11 terrorist Osama bin Laden to the American Founding Fathers. The response from outraged Democrats was...wait a minute, there hasn't BEEN an outraged response from Democrats. Nothing but silence. Ditto from the national news media. Surely, the silent treatment must be because Ms. Kaptur has apologized for her ridiculous remarks. Nope. In a follow-up interview with the Toledo Blade, Kaptur said, "There is absolutely no regret." And Democrats wonder why people don't trust them on matters of national defense and security? **************************************** Moron Moran Rep. Jim Moran got caught shooting his foot while fully inserted in his mouth this week, as his recent comments blaming Jews for the impending U.S. military action against Saddam Hussein were made public. Surely, such a slur is at least as bad as Trent Lott saying nice things about a 100-year-old retiring senator. Surely Democrats and other lefties will be consistent and demand his resignation, if not his head on a silver platter. Surely, you jest. **************************************** Million Dollar Question "Can anyone give a reason why when (captured al Qaeda terror mastermind Khalid Sheik Mohammed's) usefulness is exhausted he isn't cut into pieces in a public square somewhere over a period of say six months and without benefit of anesthesia?" - Columnist Dan Thomasson *********************************** The Goldwater Doctrine "I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution, or that have failed in their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is 'needed' before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents' interests, I shall reply that I was informed their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can." - Barry Goldwater, "The Conscience of a Conservative" To help promote the "Goldwater Doctrine" in public policy and government, join the Goldwater Project by going to: http://chuckmuth.com/goldwater.htm ********************************* ********************************* Published by Citizen Outreach Chuck Muth Editor/Publisher 611 Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, #439 Washington, DC 20003-4303 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Citizen Outreach is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public policy organization and does not endorse candidates or lobby for specific legislation.
