THE REAL SAVAGES

Remember Daniel Pearl? He was the Wall Street Journal reporter that was murdered by
having his throat cut in Pakistan in January of 2002. . . . Turns out Pearl tried to
escape once from his captors, but was unsuccessful because his hands were bound
together, and he couldn't jump over the wall. He also refused to be sedated when
offered before his throat was cut. He knew for hours that he was going to die. Can
you imagine the horror? Daniel Pearl was savagely murdered for no reason while
several people watched. This is what we're dealing with, just in case you needed
reminded. And John Kerry thinks this is a law enforcement problem?

- Neal Boortz, 5/10/04

MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION

Will the Pentagon, when it releases videos Mr. Rumsfeld says exist of U.S. military
personnel humiliating Iraqi prisoners, also release videos of Americans and fellow
allies being beheaded, burned alive and hung out to dry by enemy captors?

- Columnist John McCaslin of Inside the Beltway, 5/10/04

PETITION SUPPORTING DON RUMSFELD

Our friends over at The Federalist have set up an online petition webpage where you
can let President Bush and the rest of the congressional leadership know you continue
to support Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and do NOT wish to see him forced to
resign. You can reach it by going to: http://patriotpetitions.us/Rumsfeld/

POLLSTER: ITS KERRYS TO LOSE

(John) Kerry's performance of late has hardly been inspiring and polls show that most
Americans have no sense of where he really stands on the key issues that matter most
to them. . . . I still think he will win. And if he doesn't, it will be because he
blew it."

- Pollster John Zogby, whos been pretty darned accurate in years past

RATIONALE FOR THE KERRY CAMPAIGN

It takes a big man to blame everyone around him. Which is at last a rationale for the
Kerry campaign: If you're the kind of fellow who likes blaming your underlings, at
least when you're president there's no end of underlings to blame.

- Columnist Mark Steyn

THE CLINTONIZING OF ENGLAND

Encouraging schoolchildren to experiment with oral sex could prove the most effective
way of curbing teenage pregnancy rates, a (British) government study has found.

- The Observer, 5/9/04

AMEN, BROTHER

If war is too important to be left to the generals, the shaping of children's minds
and values is surely too important to be left to government educators.

- Columnist Jeff Jacoby

WILL YOU BE SUPER-CONNED?

(The movie) Super Size Me is not a serious look at a real health problem. It is,
instead, an outrageously dishonest and dangerous piece of self-promotion. Through his
antics, (filmmaker Morgan) Spurlock sends precisely the wrong message. He absolves us
of responsibility for our own fitness. We aren't to blame for being fat; big
corporations are! And the remedy, he suggests, is to file lawsuits and plead with the
Nanny State and the Food Police for protection.

While the film demonizes McDonald's and other restaurants, Spurlock's weight gain and
health decline have nothing to do with where he ate...but rather with how much he
consumed and how little he exercised. . . . The question is whether you fall for this
sleight-of-hand trick, as many enthusiastic reviewers already have. Are you really as
dumb as Spurlock and the agents of the Food Police who appear on the film -- like
lawyer John Banzhaf, who sees a tobacco-like pot of gold -- think you are?

- Columnist James Glassman, TechCentralStation.com, 5/5/04

FREEDOM OF CHOICE

Nobody is forced to eat at McDonalds. . . . Even more pertinent, nobody is forced to
supersize their meal or choose less healthy options on the menu.

- U.S. District Judge Robert Sweet dismissing a lawsuit against McDonalds in January
2003

CORRECTION

We had a wrong address listed last week for the Super Size Con website debunking
Morgan Spurlocks anti-McDonalds muck-umentary film which debuted in theaters this
past weekend. The correct address is:

DEPENDS ON YOUR DEFINITION OF MILLION

It was business as usual in the nations capital on Sunday despite the presence of
the anti-gun Million Mom March, which drew only 2,000 people, a fraction of the number
expected to attend.

- CNSNews.com, 5/10/04

JUST SAY YES TO STEM-CELL RESEARCH

Former first lady Nancy Reagan made an impassioned plea for more stem-cell research,
saying it could help cure illnesses like Alzheimer's, which so sorely afflicts her
husband. . . . Science has presented us with a hope called stem-cell research, which
may provide our scientists with many answers that for so long have been beyond our
grasp. I just don't see how we can turn our backs on this.

- Greg Pierces Inside Politics, 5/10/04

RINO HUNT

The primary contest between US Senator Arlen Specter (R-sometimes) and his
conservative challenger, Congressman Pat Toomey, was more than a parochial political
fight as it was a duel between the country club faction versus the Republican wing
of the GOP. Though Specter turned back Toomey at the polls, his meager margin of 2%
out of over one million ballots cast was a clear signal that RINOs are becoming an
increasingly endangered species within the Republican Party.

- Columnist Mike Bayham, GOPUSA.com, 5/10/04

THE WORD FOR TODAY IS: ASSIMILATION

I gave my order to the new girl, a nice little girl. She was very accommodating. The
little girl beside her had to take the order. I don't want to adjust to another
language. This is the United States. I think they ought to adjust to us."

- Former Maryland Gov. Don Schaefer (D) on fast-food workers who are unable to speak
English, Washington Times, 5/10/04

MULTI-CULTURAL MESS

Once you get into this multicultural [stuff], this bunk, that some folks are teaching
in our college campuses and other places, you run into a problem. There is no such
thing as a multicultural society that can sustain itself, in my view, and I think
history teaches us this lesson."

- Maryland Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R), WBAL-AM radio, 5/6/04

WOW...YALL SURE LIT THIS GUYS FUSE!

Its frustrating because nobody will help us, high school senior Don Caldwell
lamented to the Washington Times with regard to his efforts to form a Teenage
Republican Club on his Baltimore County campus. That is...until News & Views readers
got into the act!

I got a rather heated, though professional, call from Principal Rob SantaCroce of
Sparrows Point High School yesterday afternoon. To say the least, the man is not a
happy camper. Said his office had been flooded with phone calls all day and he
couldnt even send emails out because his system was so overloaded with incoming
emails regarding the Washington Times story we featured in News & Views yesterday.

In a nutshell, Mr. SantaCroce said the entire Washington Times story was crap (Im
shocked!) and called me a few names that I had to look up in a dictionary. He also
maintains that, contrary to the belief expressed in some of your emails, he is NOT a
liberal. Nor does he believe any of the kids who want to start the club are either
intimidated by him or afraid of his authority. We werent using a video-phone, but
Im pretty sure he actually said that with a straight face.

Heres the bottom line: Mr. SantaCroces beef is with the Washington Times, not with
us. If the story was, in fact, crap, and not a word of it was true, Ill be happy
to report on the Times retraction as soon as they publish it. In the meantime, Mr.
SantaCroce gave absolutely no hint as to when a TARS Club would be approved on his
campus or what he was going to do to facilitate such formation or why the faculty
adviser suddenly withdrew or whether he would assist the kids in getting a new faculty
adviser. No, lets just focus on blaming the press for bringing the story to light,
right? Go figure.

Lets hope Principal SantaCroce gets over his myopia on this issue and focuses on
getting the club started rather than blaming the Washington Times or News & Views for
bringing the story forward.
