TOP AMNESTY CHAMPION SIDETRACKED
IN BID TO RETURN TO CONGRESS
======================================================

The Utah Republican Party state convention just a few minutes ago failed to
re-nominate Rep. Chris Cannon to return to Congress.

One of the nation's foremost champions of amnesty for illegal aliens, Rep. Cannon must
now face Matt Throckmorton in a Republican primary of voters in June.

Cannon's failure to win re-nomination from his own party's convention is extraordinary
and becomes a strong signal to the nation that voters are tired of immigration
business as usual and that incumbents who constantly and aggressively violate their
constituents' wishes on immigration may indeed be punished.

Cannon's loss today is even more important because his pro-illegal positions were
obviously the key reason.

Throckmorton, a former member of the Utah legislature, has made immigration reductions
one of his two main campaign issues and has pounded Cannon for weeks for his years of
working for high immigration and rewarding illegal aliens.

Most media have been reporting for some time that immigration is the No. 1 issue in
this race.

Cannon is serving his 4th term and 8th year in the U.S. House. He is a member of the
Judiciary Committee's immigration subcommittee. As such, he has played a periodic role
in blocking legislation to crack down on illegal immigration and reduce legal
immigration. He often sides with the committee's most radical open-border Democrats
and is a darling of the national immigration lawyers association and the
Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund. Cannon has praised Mexico because
it has quadrupled its population in his lifetime. He advocates larger and larger U.S.
population growth and thinks that is an important reason to run as high immigration as
possible.

More than 90% of his campaign contributions come from out of state, primarily from
businesses that make money off the cheap foreign labor that Cannon pushes through
immigration legislation.

If you want to help Throckmorton with some out-of-state funding that would benefit the
American -- as well as the Utah -- public, you can make contributions at:

Cannon has publicly lamented the defeat of Sen. Spencer Abraham (R-MI) in 2000. Most
political commentators said that Abraham's aggressive advancement of high immigration
on the Senate immigration subcommittee was one of two or three reasons why he narrowly
lost his bid for a second term. Cannon at times has said that he considers himself as
being the person who picked up the high-immigration torch from Abraham.

After today's convention vote, it appears now that Cannon is following in Abraham's
footsteps in more than one way.

Utah is set up so that an incumbent has to win 60% of his party's convention vote to
automatically be placed on the ballot. Generally, getting that is just a formality for
an incumbent congressman. Today, however, Cannon fell a little short at 57%, with
Throckmorton getting 42% and a third candidate getting 1%.

Registered Republican voters will cast ballots between Cannon and Throckmorton in late
June.

Another loss by Cannon in June would greatly improve the chance of improvements in
immigration law in the House Judiciary Committee and would send an important signal
especially to the several dozen other Republicans in Congress who are amnesty
supporters.

People like Chris Cannon for years have voted on immigration issues as if the public
will never notice and never do anything about it. The thousand or so delegates to the
Utah convention proved that false today.

Just to know how much is at stake, look at Cannon's immigration Profile here:

He is currently the lead sponsor or co-sponsor of five amnesty bills.

Amazingly, throughout the last month of challenges, he has publicly insisted that he
opposed amnesties for illegal aliens and that none of his bills provides amnesties.
He managed to get most of the Utah media to believe there is actually ambiguity about
whether the five bills are amnesties. In fact, though, every single one of them
provides the path to permanent residency and U.S. citizenship for illegal aliens and
never requires them to go home. But Cannon is pretty good at clouding issues.
Throckmorton will need a strong advertising budget to break through to the voting
public with the truth about Cannon's leadership in Congress.

Congratulations to all of you in Utah who have worked so hard for this day.

We'll keep all of you posted with developments in this race. This is one of those
races that will draw disproprotionate national media attention.
