AN IDEA WHOSE TIME HAS COME

“What we need is a ‘separation of government and education’ president.”

- Talk show host Neal Boortz, 5/5/04

LORD OF THE FRIES

“(Attorney Raphael) Metzger, whose website touts his expertise in ‘toxic tort
litigation,’ is spearheading a suit against McDonald's and Burger King in an attempt
to force them to label their French fries as carcinogens. . . . Metzger's case hinges
on something science has known for decades with no apparent alarm. Potatoes, like all
carbohydrates and sugars, form a chemical called acrylamide when cooked. In large
does, acrylamide can cause cancer in rats. One day I would like to read of something
that doesn't cause cancer in rats if only to encourage guys like Metzger to find
constructive work.

“...Metzger filed his suit under a California law that requires warning labels on
products containing carcinogens, though the FDA could force labels nationally if it
finds a connection to cancer in humans. If the California courts take complete leave
of their senses - which would be a fairly short hike - and find in Metzger's favor, we
can expect a rash of tobacco-style French fry suits across the country.”

- Columnist Brent Morrison

CHEERS

“Republicans. Democrats are whiny, they don’t order well and they don’t tip well.”

“Democrats can be kind of dorky.”

“You see this free snack mix on the bar? We call it the Democrat mix.”

- Unidentified Washington, DC, bartenders on whether they prefer to serve Democrats or
Republicans, The Hill, 5/5/04

ILLEGAL HUG

“Three Democratic lawmakers yesterday proposed a broad legalization for illegal aliens
that would allow many of those who have lived here for five years instant legal
status. . . . ‘It is in the national interest to have all those here seeking the
American dream to be able to fully participate and contribute to American society,’
said Rep. Robert Menendez, New Jersey Democrat and chairman of the House Democratic
Caucus. . . . He is sponsoring the bill along with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy,
Massachusetts Democrat, and Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, Illinois Democrat.”

- Washington Times, 5/5/04

GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER?

“(John Kerry) claims to have picked up some important endorsements from foreign
leaders. He just won't give us the names. I got a hunch this whole thing might be a
case of mistaken identity. Just because somebody has an accent and a nice suit and a
good table at a fancy restaurant in New York doesn't make them a foreign leader.”

- President Bush in Ohio on Kerry’s statement on “Meet the Press” that “You can go to
New York City and you can be in a restaurant and you can meet a foreign leader.”

LIVE BY RACE-BAITING, DIE BY RACE-BAITING

“Democratic strategist Donna Brazile criticized Sen. John Kerry yesterday for failing
to put black and Hispanic leaders into senior campaign positions, saying it raised
serious questions about his commitment to racial diversity.”

- Washington Times, 5/5/04

BAND OF BROTHERS FRAG KERRY CAMPAIGN

“During his time in the Vietnam war, John Kerry was seen by colleagues as a
self-serving, ‘loose canon’ who came only to launch a political career, said the
commander over his swift boat division, who spoke at a press conference in Washington
with 17 other veterans. Retired Rear Adm. Roy Hoffmann, who headed Coastal Division
11, is one of more than 200 veterans who have signed a letter asking Kerry to
authorize the Department of the Navy to release all of his military records, including
health documents.

“Hoffman said Kerry ‘arrived in country with a strong anti-Vietnam War bias and a
self-serving determination to build a foundation for his political future. He was
aggressive, but vain and prone to impulsive judgment, often with disregard to specific
tactical assignments,’ Hoffman said. ‘He was a loose cannon.’ The press conference
and letter was organized by the group Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which contends
the Massachusetts senator and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is unfit to
be commander in chief.”

- WorldNetDaily.com, 5/4/04

WORKING THE SYSTEM

“While John Kerry has released some of his military records,  he has yet to account
for exactly how he received his injuries that led to his three Purple Hearts.  This is
important, of course, because 1.) Kerry has made his military service in Vietnam a
campaign issue and 2.) the rule at the time was three Purple Hearts got you sent home
from Vietnam.  So was (he) working the system?  It sure looks like it with every
passing day.”

- Talk show host Neal Boortz, 5/5/04

SGT. KERRY’S LONELY PURPLE HEARTS CLUB BAND(AID)

“The story (John Kerry) told was different from what his crewmen had to say about that
night (for which he received his first Purple Heart). According to Kerry, they had
been engaged in a fire fight, receiving small arms fire from on shore. He said that
his injury resulted from this enemy action. Some of his crew confided that they did
not receive any fire from shore, but that Kerry had fired a mortar round at close
range to some rocks on shore. The crewman thought that the injury was caused by a
fragment ricocheting from that mortar round when it struck the rocks.

“That seemed to fit the injury which I treated. What I saw was a small piece of metal
sticking very superficially in the skin of Kerry's arm. The metal fragment measured
about 1 cm. in length and was about 2 or 3 mm in diameter. It certainly did not look
like a round from a rifle. I simply removed the piece of metal by lifting it out of
the skin with forceps. I doubt that it penetrated more than 3 or 4 mm. It did not
require probing to find it, did not require any anesthesia to remove it, and did not
require any sutures to close the wound. The wound was covered with a bandaid.”

- Dr. Louis Letson to columnist Byron York, National Review Online

IF THE MAN’S UNFIT, HE OUGHT TO QUIT

“Nineteen of the 23 officers who served with John Kerry and every one of his
commanding officers in Vietnam have signed a letter that says he is not fit to be
commander in chief. . . . The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth could have impact because
of the impressive number of veterans involved. Hundreds of Vietnam vets, from admirals
to seamen, have signed the letter. . . . This large group goes a long way toward
countering the handful of veterans who have defended Mr. Kerry in commercials and on
the stump. . . . Widespread opposition to his campaign by Vietnam veterans shows they
have neither forgotten nor forgiven his disgraceful allegations against his fellow
GIs. The resentment could grow into a serious political force.”

- Washington Times editorial, 5/5/04
