possible:Position: Lead Developer

Description: The Engagement Lab is a research and design lab at Emerson
College focused on inventing playful and critical approaches to civic life
both locally and globally. We are looking for a creative, scrupulous, and
civic-oriented developer for the new Lab position of Lead Developer. As the
Lab grows and expands its role in the areas of civic technology, engagement
games <http://engagementlab.emerson.edu/learning/#guidebooks>, and human
computation / data visualization, we seek a leader who can guide the
direction of our development projects and technical infrastructure. This
position includes working with project teams to manage software development
across projects, acting as lead programmer for select projects, and working
with lab directors in establishing technical protocols and approaches.
Current software development projects include a game about Results-based
financing in healthcare for the World Bank, a civic incentive system for
the City of Boston, and a mobile deliberation game for Participatory
Budgeting. The Lead Developer will also be charged with growing and
managing a small team of developers, as well as traveling to conferences
and other development community meet-ups.

The Lab has a stake in experimental methods/frameworks and in contributing
to the knowledge base of open source development. Experience with HTML5 and
advanced javascript is a must, and knowledge of existing and emerging
back-end frameworks is desirable.

While at least four years of professional experience in coding and software
management is desired, we remain open to candidates displaying boldness,
creativity, and dexterity. The ideal candidate should have:

   - Advanced knowledge of HTML5 protocols, frameworks, and libraries
   - Knowledge of emerging technologies (ie Node.js ☺) and legacy
   technologies (ie Flash ☹) a plus
   - Ability to spot, experiment with, evaluate, and implement budding
   technologies
   - Ability to manage a team of developers and to work creatively and
   efficiently with project managers, researchers, and faculty
   - Passion for civic engagement, civic technology, and/or humanitarian
   development
   - Passion for open source development and connecting to/leading
   communities of practice
   - Ability to work in a highly-team-based environment and contribute to
   design meetings
   - Ability to self-start and lead
   - Ability to make it past 10 pipes in Flappy Bird

Position: Lab CoordinatorType: Full Time

Description: The Lab Coordinator is responsible for maintaining productive
and vibrant relationships and workflows within the Engagement Lab
community. This position is composed of three primary duties:
administrative support for lab operations and faculty; coordination of
Engagement Lab events, groups, and space; and social media outreach. In
addition to these specific duties, the Lab Coordinator's overall objective
is to maintain a welcoming, well-organized, and vibrant lab community of
staff, students, faculty, and partners. This position will report directly
to the managing director and is asked to attend and help organize weekly
meetings on organizational and project-specific updates.

We are looking for a highly-motivated self-starter who will not only keep
the lab functioning on a day-to-day basis, but help strategically rethink
and redesign systems and protocols for a better lab. The ideal candidate
will have experience in budget management, HR, event coordination, media
production, and marketing. Moreover, we seek a person with a passion for
civic engagement and media who will inject creativity, energy, and a
commitment to teamwork into the lab and its projects.
