Only a quick thought but I wonder if you are hiting an ACL bug #6261858, which gives similar error messages.
Do the directories /tank/webserver and /tank/backup have any ACL added to them which do not have a matching user/group id. i.e. server# ls -laV /tank Would show you this, but I think it was only a OpenSolaris client bug and you are using a Linux client!!!!
