We have a problem that quite a few of our systems talking to some of our
servers have real problems with NFS.

Old computers (Solaris 9 and below) talking to Solaris 10+ servers are fine.

Solaris 10+ talking to Solaris 10+ boxes has severe slow down.

We don't have any Solaris 10 Sparcs, they're all x86 boxes

Opening up a document from an NFS server in OpenOffice version 2.0 and above
takes a few minutes ... in fact if you have preview on, you can't even click on
documents.

(Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird have similar problems, but only during start
up, generally only at the point where they create the lock file for the file
cache)

if you turn off SAL_ENABLE_FILE_LOCKING in OpenOffice it runs fine, except for
the fact that other people can open and write to the files at the same time.

this may well be an OpenOffice problem, they updated the file locking for the
linux version of OpenOffice between version 1.1 and version 2, but it all seems
to be down to file locking.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Jon
