My name is David Geilhufe, I'm the managing partner of CivicSpace and one of the founders of the CiviCRM open source project.
CiviCRM is the Constituent Relationship Management system that is designed for nonprofit uses. It is designed to be integrated with a content management system and currently works within Drupal and Joomla. A couple months ago we sat down with Alan Runyan at Enfold and reviewed our APIs and integration architecture to verify CiviCRM could be integrated with Plone.
Might be a good opportunity to integrate Plone with a fully internationalized and localized CRM designed for NGO needs.
To date, no one has shown interest in providing NGOs integrated functionality with CiviCRM/Plone, though we are happy to provide support to anyone that wants to spearhead the integration.
CiviCRM gives you:
(1) Central CRM database to track your users and their activities on and off line.
(2) Ability to create online donation pages on the fly (PayPal is the payment processor, but no barrier to building additional payment back ends). All contributions are automatically entered into the CRM and can be exported to financial systems.
(3) CiviMail... high volume bulk mail with token replacement, open and click through tracking.

Nice to see such a long thread on GP.
The bottom line for GP was the tight integration of drupal with a CRM
system, the name of which I didn't remember. It was mainly this feature
that made GP choose for Drupal, because they are allready using that CRM
system.
Allthough somebody from GP went to the Ploneability conf, their biggest
impression was that Plone has a lot of issues with performance. Which
might say more about the person visiting Ploneability than the
conference itself.
Another big thing that scared them was the budget. They heard about what
Oxfam had paid for their system.
