Can you be a bit more specific about Alan's conclusions?
Did he estimate how mush effort? Recommend a plan? Suggest potential
pitfalls?
The goal is interesting, so the question is whether/how to approach it.

Can't really be more specific since it was a matter of "is it possible" not "how
long would it take."
Alan thought it could be done in a couple stages... simple to more complex. I
believe that he though the first layer would be PlonePAS integration.
The real point is that no one in the CiviCRM development team is an expert in the
"user frameworks" we are integrated with (Joomla and Drupal). People in those
communities estimate how much effort and make the plan. The CiviCRM team just makes
whatever changes in CiviCRM are required to ease the integration efforts.
