Also, turn off unnecessary css and js for unauthenticated users by
adding "not: portal/portal_membership/isAnonymousUser" to the conditions
in the css and js registries where appropriate.
generated.css is a particularly good target for this treatment; it's
huge and its main application is adding content-type icons in
navigation. There's also no need to send authoring and member support
css and js to unauthenticated users.

Thank you all very much!
I will definitely get it out of debug mode! Hadn't realized that was
still on.
I know some form of caching is being applied, but I'd have to check with
Amaze to see which one exactly.
I also got the tip that reducing the resolution of the pictures could
also help significantly.
Thank you all for your suggestions!

Hi Nynke
I can see straight away one thing that will be causing your website to
be very slow and that is that you have the debug setting portal_css
setting turned on as I can see all your css files are being loaded
separately rather than be merged together.
If you go into the the ZMI for your site click on portal_css make sure
that the Debug/development mode is unticked.
You might also want to have a look at the options you have enabled in
the zope.conf file and make sure you don't have other debugging
options turned on.
cheers

Hello All,
I'm placing this question here wondering if others have taken
specific steps
I can follow to speed up our website: www.iicd.org.
I've had complaints about the speed and when measuring it here
http://www.vertain.com the result is disconcerting, 8.36 seconds to
load the
homepage :<... and this when an important part of our target group
uses
dial-up from Africa and Latin America!
The total size of the homepage, scripts and stylesheets included is
518 kb
uncompressed.
Suggestions for improvements are very welcome!
