Thanks Patrick, I did actually open a support request a few days ago. The initial response was that the CPU consumption is low and there is plenty of memory available, and therefore it couldn't be made to go any faster. However, since several other Jira's, including the instance Atlassian themselves use to handle support requests, this is clearly not the full story. We'll see if it leads anywhere.
