Well commiserates and commerades, on my '86 CB700SC it took me the
longest to figure out how to fix my electrical intermittant no start
problem but I got it. ; )
After tracing the problem to the starter relay/solenoid it seemed
simple, replace it. However my finances put my ingenuity to work.
Inside of the solenoid, when energized, the electromagnetic field
causes a piston to overcome it's light return spring and make the
starter, well start. In mine I could make the piston operate by
applying direct electrical power but not while in the bike. Until I
put some 800 then 1000 grit paper on some glass, soaked it with WD40
and reshaped the copper "crowsfeet" contacts which had some errosion
due to sparking. Saved myself over 110 with CA tax and shipping, per
my local store.
