Thank you, Kyle. I'm checking the battery as well. I got it from the dealership
and it's only 6 months old but it still could be the problem. (And after I
backed the dealership up on their batteries!).
I decided to check the battery after the first few times the bike died and it
was dead. I charged it up and tried again. After a few starts and the bike
dying again, I checked the battery...dead. I'm going to hook up a load tester.
The bike was acting up on the last two rides. The first time the bike was
suddenly losing power on the freeway. It got down to where I was on the side of
the road at a crawl. Then the bike took off and I got home. The next time it
made it home but was doing the same thing. At least it got me home. It could
have been the battery failing...I'll let you know. Thanks for your advice. I'll
check that as well. Hotrod.

Mine had a brownish plastic screen about 2 inches long down inside the tank
after you pull off the petcock. It's about the same dimensions as a cigarette,
I had to pull it out with some needlenose. If you see anything plastic in the
tank that's it, it's just held in place by friction.

One way to see if you're starving for fuel is to block off the air intake
under the seat and see if it runs a little better. If you restrict the airflow
and it balances out then it's starving for fuel. You remembered to hook the
vacuum line back up right?

Kyle...I just pulled my petcock...I didn't see a plastic sceen above the
petcock. Does it stay in the tank?
I cleaned my fuel screen (inside the petcock), replaced the O ring and put
it back on. Now my bike starts for awhile and then dies under load or all by
itself after a short time. Any Ideas? I'm wondering if its not getting enought
fuel for some reason.

With mine I went to Ace hardware and bought rubber stoppers. I drilled a
hole thru the middle of them and put a bolt nut and washers thru it with the
end of the bolt and the nut sticking out the top, that way I could hold the
bolt with some pliers and tighten the nut to compress the stopper in place. The
small one for the petcock I just shoved in there.
Another trick is a heat gun or old blow dryer to help evaporate the fuel.
Also, don't forget to pull the plastic screen that sits above the straw
for the petcock, if you seal that up you're gonna have a bad time.

Hi group! I bought the Kreem kit to seal my tank. The directions
specify to drill small holes on either side of the gas hole, put gasket
materila over, and then a piece of metal or wood which is then screwed down to
seal the tank. (For a Nighthawk it would be one additional hole since there are
two already to bolt down the gas cap). They say not to use ducktape of course.
My question is: Is there another way to seal the gas tank hole without
drilling another hole?
I have heavy gasket material and I thought that if I put a jar lid over
that and then taped it down with ducktape it would work. (The duck tape would
no be in direct contact with the tank contents then.)
Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
