If it has been sitting a long time, with gas, I would use carb cleaner,
spraying it in the carbs.
My neighbor has a 250 dirt bike that wouldn't start.  I went over and
sprayed the throat of the carb while he cranked and finally got it cleared out
enough to run.
Your mother's however, seems to have the opposite problem:  too much gas.
Still, carb cleaner down the throats would unstick the chokes, if that is the
problem.  My experience, other than that, is break 'em down, soak 'em, rinse
'em out, blow 'em out, and re-assemble and adjust them.

Has it been sitting for a long while? The first thing I'd check for is bad gas.
If the gas smelled foul I would flush the tank and use carb cleaner on the
carbs before starting the bike. Second would be to clean the carbs before
rebuilding and see if that helps , third thing, I would check out the plugs to
see if they are fouled.

Hi Guys and Gals,
Long time no post for me. I need a second opinion on this. My mother has a 1985
GL1500 Goldwing trike. I got it to start the other day after about 10 minutes
of trying. It only backfired once (that time)  I tried to start it yesterday
and I had to leave the garage open to air out the fuel smell for about an hour.
And it never did start that time. But backfired 3 times and made carbon marks
on the floor on both sides. I am thinking it has MAJOR carb issues. I think it
is running very rich or has a blockage. Like I said it smell like gas even when
I just turn on the key and TRY to start it. I have not even taken the panels
off of it yet so here is what might be considered a stupid question. It is a
six cylinder bike. Does it also have 6 carbs? I think it does but I cannot see
any part of the motor because of the plastic covering EVERYTHING. Here is a pic
of the bike. I know I have to rebuild the carbs but could it be anything else
also? Thank you in
advance. I just hope I was clear enough.
THANKS AGAIN
