Now if I get this right, it doesn't start ? Let's verify it can start. Remove the air cleaner and spark plugs, replace them if gunked. Spray it (2+2, ether, whatever) and crank it without any choke. It should start (?) Big mess coming up as it purges the excess fuel. Let it run (should run even on rancid gas) After it warms, drain the fuel out and replace with fresh. Now if it can't be started even spraying it with new plugs, let me know. Things get very complex at this point. I'm assuming it sat quite awhile. Removing the carb pack is nothing to take lightly. The stale fuel cannot allow it to start but will support it as long as you can trick it into starting. I'm hoping this method works for you. Carb work on one of those will test you. Good luck. At least once a year somebody finds an old Wing and brings it to us to revive. It's not a job, it's a project. Maybe a career. The covers only add to the pleasure.

To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, January 18, 2009, 10:07 PM Hi Guys and Gals, Long time no post for me. I need a second opinion on this. My mother has a 1985 GL1500 Goldwing trike. I got it to start the other day after about 10 minutes of trying. It only backfired once (that time) I tried to start it yesterday and I had to leave the garage open to air out the fuel smell for about an hour. And it never did start that time. But backfired 3 times and made carbon marks on the floor on both sides. I am thinking it has MAJOR carb issues. I think it is running very rich or has a blockage. Like I said it smell like gas even when I just turn on the key and TRY to start it. I have not even taken the panels off of it yet so here is what might be considered a stupid question. It is a six cylinder bike. Does it also have 6 carbs? I think it does but I cannot see any part of the motor because of the plastic covering EVERYTHING. Here is a pic of the bike. I know I have to rebuild the carbs but could it be anything else also? Thank you in advance. I just hope I was clear enough.
