A quickie about the R60. My girlfriend loved it because it rode so good (Earles
front fork, remember them ?) It was kinda' sloooow (My X6 would've killed it)
but it was a cool ride and attracted attention. Now here comes the bad part.I
bought it for cheap from a guy who got drafted and was leaving like tomorrow..
I didn't notice the locking gas cap till... Guess where the key was?  I had to
wait till he got back from basic. Untill that time I had to fill it from a carb
hose by extending the hose above the gas trank and pouring it in a funnel.
The R60 had a kick start only and if you recall they kick out ?? My Sportster
was a XLH not an XLCH so it did have an electric starter. Speedo in the tank
top, no seperate gauges.

1000cc Ironhead, 4 speed. Of course it leaks
oil...it is a Harley after all and if it didn't leak oil that only means it's
out and needs a couple of quarts..LOL! No tattoos on this ol' girl EVER, no
cigs
(allergies) and whiskey on occasion. I figured the Sporty would be my valley
ride, the Nighthawk my distance ride. I like your stories! I ordered up some
parts for it already and I should have it road-able in a week or so. I paid
$2,000.00 for it and the guy threw in about $500.00 in parts (at least) so I
think I'm O.K. Thanks Dennis!

      I don't remember them having a front disc brake (?) I
could do without the high-rise handlebars too. still in all, a nice
        bike. 883 ? A four speed ? I don't know if I'd ever have another one (I
had a 59 sportster many years ago) I like riding them from time to time
but I always stop before the tattoos start appearing and I crave a
Lucky
and a beer. They were way ahead of their time. Mine had a primitive
GPS.
        An automatic country hotel finder.
My mother was the reason for me
giving the sporty up. It leaked oil on the patio....
I got into a
"race" against a Triumph Bonneville one day and when it came time to
stop (like WHOA !) It came up a little short (front drum brake model)
and I bumped the back of a stopped Valiant station wagon.  The bike
climbed the bumper and dented the rear door. (a good solid bump) The
driver leaned out the window and cursed me out and drove off. I turned
right at the next light.... I guess he noticed the dent later. I sold
it
and bought a BMW R60. Got some good stories about that too.
Enjoy
your HD, one thing is sure, parts availability and resale value. Can't
        go wrong.

          No...it's been repainted...see attached
photo. The shocker is that it's a kicker, but I'm installing the
          starter.

                Is it R,W&B ? I had a friend who had a
Bicentennial Glide and it was. Talk about collectible
                  !

Hey Paul....it was a great day
yesterday. I put a new starter on my Nighthawk and took it
for a spin. I missed riding! I also got myself a '76 Harley
Sportster to play with. (Bicentennial model). Now I have a
                    put-put and a VROOM-VROOM!

Yesterday I was driving to a basketball
game my daughter was playing in at a small town nearby
(Middleton, Idaho) and along the way noticed the outside
temperature reading was 60 degrees!!!!! Wow!!! It won't
be
                      long now!

Paul
