You may want to look at the archives at Nighthawk on Google groups as well. I would highly recommend a manual of some kind, preferably a real shop manual if you are going to get greasy and repair your bike. Also, it doesn't hurt to just know the basics about your bike. Under the tank on the left side of the bike is the petcock which is attached to the bottom side of your gas tank. That is where you turn the gas on or off. The gas line will run from that down to your carbs. Check and see if it is leaking at the petcock or at both connections of the gas hose. The gas line could also have a split or a break. I always start with the most simple things first. Let us know what the outcome of that procedure is and we'll go from there. okay HRM, where do I find the gas hose? Would I have to remove the tank to find it? I will check for gas at the bottom of the carbs when I start it tomorrow. What else should I be looking for and along with a possible float bowl seal what else could it be? I'll try to send pics . I only have my camera phone right now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: Creative Residential Designs <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, April 21, 2009 1:31:40 PM Subject: [Nighthawk Lovers] Re: gasoline leak? It sounds like the gas is getting sucked into the air filter from a leak at the carbs somewhere. Have you checked the gas hose? Can you feel gas at the bottom of the carbs? I had a leak on a carb last weekend and just felt around on the carb to locate where the leak was really coming from. (float bowl seal on that particular one). Let us know a bit more so we can help you. Feel free to sent pictures too. I asked before and thought it was because I was over filling the tank. But apparently that is not the case because my bike is running out of gas and then only restarts when I put the petcock on reserve. I noticed also that on the right side under where the carbs are there seems to be an opening. A very short rubber hose type opening that I nver noticed before that had gas leaking out of it(or what I think is gas) when I start it up. I had noticed the leak before but not the rubber opening. This leaking seems to subside once the bike is warm. I have had the bike a little over a year now and haven't ridden it that much(not quite 1000 miles) with still learning and all. So consequently, I haven't been getting the correct mileage out of it at all. So 2 things: when I put gas in it filling up or not, it seems to flow into the air box and it also flows out of this newly discovered rubber opening. I can't tell if something is missing and this opening should be covered or if the opening should be there or what the deal is. Please can somebody help??
