The air box is where all crankcase emissions go. Whatever is forced out of the
crankcase by a running engine winds up there. On a stuck float, it'll be gas,
an overfilled sump, it'll be oil. A tired out motor will have a lot of blow-by
from the rings and hence a lot of crankcase pressure, so there will be oil in
the air box. Now, that said, there is no reason for alarm. It's not at all
uncommon to have oil in there. They should have what is called a "liquid
separator"  to perform the function of separating the oil from the vapor. The
oil is either returned to the sump or stored in a small container. The vapor is
re-circulated the same way a car emissions system works. It passes back through
the engine. I'm going to visit a parts site and look at what is used on your
bike. It may be that the thing uses a container system and needs to be emptied.
The larger bikes store the liquid component of crankcase vapor in a long tube
that ends under the bike. It
needs to be emptied from time to time. Failure to do so will cause a condition
as you describe. I'll get back to you in about an hour. What makes questions
like yours hard is I'm not there. I can't see what you have and all the
details.

Dennis H,

okay I just changed the oil. Haven't ridden in a few days(too chilly). Checked
the airbox last night and it has quite a bit of oil in it. Why is this? What do
I do now? I just not too long ago put a new foam air filter in it as well. Why
is it sometimes the airbox will have gas in it and right now it has oil in it?
Am I in trouble.

Please check the oil. There is no connection between putting gas in the tank
and gas in the air box. Unless... it's getting into the sump and the overfilled
sump is being pumped out into the air box. How does that happen ? Stuck float
valve in a carb is a good place to start. It flows into the carb throat and
down past the rings, over fills the sump and the running motor provides the
pressure to push it out... where to ? just where the breather goes to..the air
box. .

Can anybody tell why I have gasoline going into my air filter? I asked before
and thought it was because I was over filling the tank. But apparently that is
not the case because my bike is running out of gas and then only restarts when
I put the petcock on reserve. I noticed also that on the right side under where
the carbs are there seems to be an opening. A very short rubber hose type
opening that I nver noticed before that had gas leaking out of it(or what I
think is gas) when I start it up. I had noticed the leak before but not the
rubber opening. This leaking seems to subside once the bike is warm. I have had
the bike a little over a year now and haven't ridden it that much(not quite
1000 miles) with still learning and all. So consequently, I haven't been
getting the correct mileage out of it at all.

So 2 things: when I put gas in it filling up or not, it seems to flow into the
air box and it also flows out of this newly discovered rubber opening. I can't
tell if something is missing and this opening should be covered or if the
opening should be there or what the deal is. Please can somebody help??
