Hi every one,
I was hoping for some help with this bike, its a 1983 nighthawk
550, a friend of mine gave it to me due to the fact that he didn't
have the time to try to get get it up and running again. So there are
many issues with it, and i took it on as my project with the hopes of
getting it up and running. So any help would be much appreciated. So
to start off i replaced the battery and the starter is working but the
bike is not firing up. From what i have read so far I think I should
clean the carbs and drain all the old fuel. Is that a good first step.
Along with replacing the spark plugs?
second I think the electrical system is a little screwy, I know that
under the head light the fuse box one of the plugs is screwed and i
was going to replace the whole box hoping it might be the issue with
my gauges and turn signals
third is that my tail light as soon as the battery is hooked up stays
on even with out the key in the ignition
with any luck hopefully some one if not all of you in this group would
be able to help me out. I would like to do all the work my self even
though the only other things i know how to work on are jet skis from
when i was a little younger
so to put it simply the only thing i have going for me right now is
knowing that the starter turns and that the oil in the case is fresh
and new
thanks
colin
