I believe a CB700 or 750 will get you to 100k but it is unrealistic to think
you'll even hit 30k on any bike with just oil changes and nothing else. Our
4's are arguably THE MOST dependable and low maintenance air cooled motors
of their time. But do not confuse low maintenance with maintenance free
because in the bike world there is no such thing.

I ride with a guy who has a '91 CB750 with 87k+ and running strong but he
takes care of his bike which means rebuilding/replacing what wears out and
keeping the carbs clean oil changed exc. I know guys who ride the original
CB750's and some of those guys deep in the high miles.

Research and stay on this forum if you want a good idea of what kind of
issues may or may not occur throughout your Hawk's life. Know that if we
were all riding different bikes this forum would be packed with
troubleshooters. I have even heard people call our bikes boring because they
work so well. I call them suckers!

If you are going to ride than you are going to turn some wrenches. Or you
can pay somebody to do it for you... or you can ride it until it stops
running and park it in the back yard where I find it give pennies on the
dollar bob's your uncle restore it to glory enjoy it sell it back to you.

By the way... wolly world (Wal-Mart)is for godless marauding killers of
small business

hotrodmamma i saw that you wrote "the only thing that kills a hawk is lack

of oil". most people i have talked to have said "they have never seen one

last past 50k". this is my first hawk and i have 34k on it. it's an 86

700sc. i drive it hard but take good care of it. i put 60miles a day on it

going to work. and have had no problems yet except when i bought it 6 months

ago the trottle cable broke on the way home. that was a scary ride. i had to

cut the cable and work the trottle with a pair of pliers to get it home 10

miles. my arm was like jelly. it was difficult to find another one that was

new. so i got one from a salvage yard. it broke because the cable rubbed

against the gas tank. so everybody that has a hawk needs to be weary of

this. i fixed the problem by putting a hose clamp on the two trottle cables

next to the gas tank to protect them but once i put the clamp on it did not

touch the tank any more. just a suggestion for anyone with a hawk. so back

to the question. what is the average life of a hawk. provided that you keep

oil in it.
