That sounds a whole lot like my 1996 750 / 20k miles.  I purchased in
a year ago for $2,000 from the original owners son.  It had never been
in the rain and was very well taken care of.  If you do half the stuff
that NytWing told you you're be shure to get a great bike.  The only
thing I would change on mine is the seat - my butt gets sore after
about an hour.  Someone wrote a thread about that a month or two
back.  You can find any part you want on Bike Bandit or Ron Ayers.
One indication of how reliable these bikes are is eBay.  Compaired to
other years and sizes of NightHawks there really aren't that many used
parts available.  This sounds lots better than the 82 650 you were
looking at.
