Yes, understand the ground from handlebars to frame to battery is through the
wiring harness. When a ground is suspect, you do this and if it works, find and
fix the real problem. OK with that ?

So attach a wire to the handlebars and to an engine mounting bolt, just have
the wire connected to the handlebars not to the starter button, and connect
that to an engine mounting bolt. Am I understanding you right?

 Starting?

May I suggest trying a simple wire from the handlebars to an engine mounting
bolt ? it sounds like a ground issue. Pushing the button should put the
headlight out and activate the solenoid. The most seen failure of a switch
assembly is burning out the light contact. In other words, no headlight.

I recently bought a used but still working starter button/ kill switch
assembly due to thinking that the starter button was bad
 and wasn't
starting my bike, I put the new one on and the same thing happens.
Headlight will be on, when I hit the starter button the headlight dims
but nothing happens. I can start my bike by jumping the starter
solenoid, and the bike will run just fine. Is this problem the starter
solenoid, is it the start/kill switch assembly, or is it some other
wiring?
