Read the archives. A crammed in battery can be caused by the alternator-regulator problem : very frequent on this bike. Too often, a stator failure causes a short circuit failure of the regulator which in turn, once the stator rewired, destroys the battery and possibly again the stator. ALL this must be checked, especially when buying a bike, when you can think that the previous owner sold it because there is a problem that he (or his dealer) can't fix. It was my case when buying my 84 650. Just put an ohmmeter on the black/white wires of the stator. Must read 5 to 6 ohms. If 3 ohms, you stator is fried. Yes, it doesn't fry in open circuit or full 0 Ohms short circuit : it fries in the middle of the winding, short circuiting a part of it, giving too high currents for the poorly designed regulator which in turn fries itself.
Bad starting on cool mornings comes, IMHO, from the cdi (if spark plugs ok). Buying an old used cdi won't be very useful, because these electronic device loose their efficiency with time : 25 yrs old is very old for the electrolytic capacitors inside. Better buy a new one at Honda (if available and you have the $$$), or buy a one that can be adapted at a manufacturer : such companies in Czek republic, New Zealand, ... probably USA. Or you can also open the cdi and change the electrolytic capacitors AND the transistors. Or you can also buy irridium spark plugs which are more efficient with an old cdi : lower spark energy will still give an acceptable spark. Or you can downsize the gap at the spark plugs, going from 0.8 to 0.6 or even 0.5 mm : this gives a better cold start and can also give a loss of efficiency at high rpms. This last action could be tried for no $$$ - and is reversible - to check if yes or no the problem comes from the cdi.
