                        Continental Road Attack Tire
Finding the perfect tire for your particular riding
style can be like finding the perfect girlfriend. Sometimes frustrating and
usually expensive, it takes a lot of trial and error to find the perfect fit.
But when you get things right, you and your bike feel, well, complete.

When it came time to replace the OEM Bridgestones on
our ZX-14 we had an idea of what we were looking for. It wasn't that the
BT014R's were bad tires, but just that when trying to cope with the big Zed's
sheer weight and power output, their grip level and lifespan left something to
be desired.

Enter Continental's ContiRoadAttack. Not quite a major
player on the U.S. motorcycle tire scene, Continental is already a top seller
in Europe, and the ContiRoadAttack in particular is gaining a reputation as a
sticky but durable alternative to more mainstream hypersport-touring tire
choices. As the top offering in Continental's sport-touring range, these German
hoops feature a similar construction to that of Metzeler's sport tires. They
also have one of the coolest tread patterns we've ever seen at
CheapCycleParts.com.

By using braided, not coiled, steel belts, Continental
claims the ContiRoadAttack offers a wider than usual rear tire contact patch
and less deformation overall. Less deformation means better grip and less heat
buildup. That's all well and good, but how do they work?

Once laced up to the ZX, we tackled a variety of
riding, including the normal 10-mile daily commute and extended day rides to
the region's twisties. We immediately noticed an improvement over the stock
Bridgestones. The RoadAttack allowed much more aggressive riding than the BT's
and offered superior cornering as well. We also found the Conti to have a wider
wear zone than the Bridgestones, but more even wear overall.

Now comes the really good news.

With a bike as powerful as the Ninja, tire wear is
always a concern. The photos above show both tires at an identical 2,750 miles.
By this mileage, the rear Bridgestone was basically toast. The Conti on the
other hand still had tons of life left. This is a great thing for a bike that
inhales tires like Kobayashi does hot dogs!

Since these shots were taken, we've added another 1,000
miles to the ContiRoadAttacks, including a track day at Mid-Ohio, and they've
continued to perform beautifully. All in all, we've become big fans of the
Conti, and will likely stick with them for the next go-round. Huh...it feels
good to be in a steady relationship!

The ContiRoadAttacks are available in all the usual
sport-touring sizes and range from $87-$134.
