on my 83 650SC some guy had rigged one of those cigarrette lighter outlets (12V) up to the battery. needless to say on an '83 650 nighthawk where the charging system is already strained.. this was not the wisest of decisions... I promptly removed it.
that said, it worked fine for his purposes, the GPS was powered through it. I can get pics of the unit he used next weekend when I visit my bike next if you are curious.
