If you were an old biker, you'd always turn the valve to "off" when you're done riding. You will have to remove the carbs but maybe not replace anything. The needle tips can glaze and they are easily cleaned by scraping a finger nail gently over the surface. The floats are plastic and sealed. Unless one has cracked and is full of gas, leave 'em alone. The most common cause is some tiny bit of debris has gotten stuck between the tip and seat. Examine the tips with a magnifing glass. I'm always surprised that this doesn't happen more often. Consider that the tips are so small and have to hold back so much. A bike kept in a shed that is out in the open is a prime place for this problem. The sun heats the shed, the gas in the tank gets hot and the pressure goes up.... leak city. The California models can do this with ease. Their tanks aren't vented to outside air. Drain the oil and replace the filter too. After you clean the tips and seats and put the bowls back on, prop the carbs up someplace and supply them with gas. Let stand for an hour or so to make sure you got the cure. Don't want to repeat. I've seen bikes with so much gas in the sump they wouldn't turn over. That's actually a blessing. If it had started... See, things could be worse.

I think, oh great, the fuel tube popped but NOPE, it's coming out of the crank case...! I took off the oil filler plug and gasoline literally pours out... sigh. Anyone have this issue? I'm guessing I have to replace a few floats and needles at the very least. New oil too since this batch has been completely rocked by gasoline I'm thinking.
