I went and bought a bottle of Meguiar's PlastX to use on the gauge covers. Applied it a few times with a rag and things weren't moving fast enough for me so I rubbed it in with some 800 grit paper and within a couple of minutes it went from literally not being able to see the gauges to seeing them clearly. It isn't perfect, but I'll sit down tonight and finish them off with some less abrasive measures. Thanks to all for the help in the past. Today I finally got to take my 700s for a quick spin for the first time. I don't have turn signals or mirrors yet so it was just around the block a few times, but it was nice to finally get her in motion. It starts and idles great but has a hesitation from around 3k-4k. I'm hoping that the sea foam will cure that but I guess it wouldn't kill me to pull the carbs and clean them out.Anybody have any ideas on where I can find inexpensive turn signal mounts for the front? I need the actual part that attaches to the fork as well as the turn signals. I'm finding the signals and stems on ebay but not having much luck for stay. Any ideas? Aren't the signal parts the same as the sabres or something of the same year? I've kicked around getting mirrors with the signals in them but can't find any that I like as I'd like to keep the bike as close to stock as possible. I know they make a lot of neat stuff. I use one of their products to remove old wax and it works great. I'll look for the lens cleaner. My wife's Volvo headlight covers are terrible. The spray stuff for refreshing a wax job is neat too. Not all stores have all products. The gauges turned out good, just took forever. It was a winter project for my VF11. One of the biggest rats I ever bought. It may have been a lot quicker. I have used my buffer and fine (machine) cut cleaner and the yellow wax and cleared up many a lens on cars I have detailed. I think they are polycarbonate also. Don't use a Dremel or anything like that, it can't take any heat and will burn. I refinished my gauges starting with 600 wet paper, Dupont #7 white , Semichrome, jewelers rouge. 20+ hours to do two gauges. I'm sure there might be better stuff, but that's what I had. Watch TV and rub. I'm wondering if anybody has had any luck clearing this up or if I am wasting my time. I tried a polish that I had laying around but don't seem to be making much progress. Perhaps I should go get a heavier polish or even try wet-sanding? Thanks in advance. Hotmail: Trusted email with powerful SPAM protection.
